shopping!!!!
Didn’t do much work today… didn’t even manage to read up for prelab tomorrow. But! Had a good time out with my family and am feeling much happier now. After dinner I popped into the furniture shop and discovered that the bass clef-shaped armchair I fell in love with a few months ago is still on display! And marked down by $100!!!!! It’s still a pricey $399, though.
After that we went to Bugis Village. I took Mother and Sister to lynn’s shop, where Mother, for the first time in decades, suddenly took an interest in the clothes displayed. (lynn sells vintage clothing.) But she didn’t buy anything. Mother doesn’t ever buy anything for herself “because there’s so much junk in our house already”. *sigh* lynn showed me the card Mayday sent her…they are such nice people!
I love shopping for clothes with Mother because:
1)Mother pays.
2)Mother has good taste and I don’t feel so guilty if I like something expensive that she thinks is nice too.
3) Mother is nice and motherly to the young shop assistants so she gets discounts.
4) Mother doesn’t have a low pain threshold of $20 (I hurt if anything costs more than $19.90)
She kept commenting that the shop owners/assistants were all sooo young. (Younger than me!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHH!) And how they manage to survive with low crowds and really high rentals…
Sister likes short little skirts with pleats i.e. the stuff of schoolgirl porn ^^;; So Mother kept shaking her head and saying “it’s so short…” There was some kind of sibling rivalry at work today ‘cos Mother liked all the things I took a second look at but frowned at Sister’s choices. You should have seen her face when the shop assistant told us that some particular skirt could be worn as a tube too.
In the end I got a skirt from one of the shops from Level 2. Mother complains that I don’t wear skirts. I don’t have anything against skirts, but you can’t wear sports shoes/sandals with skirts. You have to wear horrible dressy sandals or heeled shoes - and I have major issues with THOSE. Sigh. I do actually like lots of skirts out there; just that I don’t have the footwear for them. You might catch me wearing that skirt to lecture some day. AND DO NOT LAUGH. I have the habit of crossing over seats to get to the row above/below. You can’t do that in a skirt. Oh no. You can only clamber ungracefully over the seats.
Also bought an anchor pendant from the guy opposite the shop. Sigh. Spur-of-the-moment buy. I love pendants, but sooner or later I get tired of putting them on every morning and eventually stop wearing them. Yup. My ankh is sitting morosely in my cabinet right now. Don’t take them off, you say? I don’t want to be strangled in my sleep.

Year-end holiday for M1s = 3 months
Year-end holiday for M3s = 1 week
Days of leave a doctor in NUH gets = 22 per year
Days of leave a doctor in NUH actually takes = less than 22 per year
(because you have to make sure there’s someone who can cover for you before you go on leave.)
Days of leave Father takes a year = less than 20.
I knew what I’d be getting myself into before I made my decision; I’m not complaining about it, but I am aware of the fact that M1 is probably the last time I’ll ever have such a long break…so…
