Taipei Day 5: Books and home

Our last morning in Taipei. Part of me was eager to go home and sleep in my own bed; but the larger part of me was dreading having to work again. Packed before breakfast. I had to open my foldable bag.

We checked out, then headed off to look for Kinokuniya again at 忠孝东路.

Well, we couldn’t find it! No matter.

台北巨蛋
Here’s a photo of the Taipei Dome, for good measure.
(Only in Singapore would people put spikes on a large rounded structure and call it a durian. Go figure.)

We ended up at a Taiwanese bookstore, and managed to find the onionclub English book anyway! It’s freakin’ hilarious because the learning conversations are filled with American slang and dubious content. And of course, the very apt onionclub emos are there in full colour.

Mission accomplished.

Went back to Ximen Ding for more donuts. Spend 70 TWD and one gets a scratchy card with a minimum of 1 point. Collect 10 points for a cute tote bag. Karyn’s determination is rock-solid.

Matcha donut with red beans
Matcha donut with red beans; kinda like eating taiyaki with a crispy matcha-flavoured shell.

Double chocolate donut
Double-layered chocolate donut.

Lunch at a wanton shop that lynn had been eyeing for ages.

Wanton
The wanton are big, meaty and solid.

Potstickers
And potstickers!

Last-minute shopping for presents ensued.
[Damage hit: a water bottle from a.n.s]

We headed back to the hotel, buying one round of bubble tea. Our chaffeur to the airport was a really yandao (in lynn’s words) gentleman. XD.

At the airport, we met this really adorable lady at a pushcart selling Taiwanese goodies. (The melon/pineapple cakes were awesome.) She’s really chatty; somehow the conversation got to how in Singapore, young couples leave the nest after they get married; whereas in Taiwan, the practice is to continue living with one’s parents. And she firmly encouraged us to marry Taiwanese men. LOL.

The flight back was very comfortable.
